BaseGolf Instructions

Overview and Rules

BaseGolf is a hybrid of the sports Baseball and Golf, borrowing from both and extending where it is suitable.

You play as a batter facing a pitcher on a golf course trying to hit the pitcher's throws into the hole on the green, while avoiding traps. The closer to making it in the hole the ball goes, the more bases you are awarded.

If the ball goes out of bounds or lands too far from the hole it is considered a strike. Three strikes and you are out. Three outs and your inning is over. Hitting the ball into traps will give you an immediate out.

When you hit the ball close enough to the hole to score a base, you will have a runner move to that base. The closer the hit, the more bases will be run. Unlike Baseball, the runners will not move unless another runner behind them is pushing them, as there is no opposing team to try to stop them.

To hit the ball well, you will need to position yourself properly, as the location the ball strikes the bat during your swing will determine where the ball goes. Hit the ball towards the tip of the bat to drive it further. Hit the ball towards the handle of the bat to pop it up and have it move less distance. Moving can be done by using the arrow keys on the keyboard or moving with the joypad. Swinging is done with the SPACE key, ENTER key or the first button on your joypad (sometimes labeled A).

To see the "base bullseye" at any time in the game, press F2 on your keyboard or the second button on your joypad (sometimes labeled B).

Methods of Play

BaseGolf features 3 distinct methods of play with their own rules and rewards.

BaseGolf Challenge

In Challenge mode you must complete a given number of runs, represented by a par number, before you can proceed to the next hole and inning. You score points for each run and hit you make. If you are struck out three times in one inning you may opt to trade in your score to continue playing, but each time you do this it will cost you more score. The goal in BaseGolf Challenge is to make it through all 18 holes and innings while getting the highest score possible.

9-Inning

In 9-Inning mode your goal is to make the most runs possible with your 9 innings. Each inning, when you receive 3 strikes you will move on to the next inning, so you want to do your best on each one.

Hole-In-One Derby

Hole-In-One Derby is to show off your accuracy skills, trying to hit the ball into the hole, or as close to it as possible over 10 pitches. After 10 pitches the distance from the hole for each hit is added up to create your total distance. You want to get this as low as possible.

Courses

BaseGolf has two 18 hole courses to play through, each with its' own set up challenges and rewards.

The Links

Hit a few runs on the Links. Grass, trees, sand and water traps make up 18 increasingly challenging holes. Hitting the ball into water is an automatic out, but a hit into sand could bounce out onto the grass if you're lucky. If the ball hits a tree it will bounce off, but if it gets stuck you will be out so be careful.

The Moon

With low gravity and gaping craters the moon presents a different kind of challenge. Your hits must be more accurate, as there is less chance of rolling onto the green or out of a trap. Rims around craters will get you out the same as landing in a sand trap and rocks have replaced trees to divert your shots.

Difficulty

BaseGolf has 3 levels of difficulty: easy, medium and hard.

The differences between them are an ever decreasing "base bullseye" and more points as the difficulty increases. If you want to score high, you'll need to hit accurately.

Multiplayer
Play BaseGolf by yourself, or compete against a friend. In the Play Options menu you can select 2 Players to alternate playing. Players switch turns at bat each inning and compete for score and runs on any of the Methods of Play.

Tutorials

BaseGolf features tutorials as you play that provide comments about the actions you are performing and how the game is responding to you. These can be helpful initially to explain things, but also make the game move slower until you have gone through them all. The tutorials will also repeat each time you begin the game again.

To turn the tutorials on or off at any time during the game press the F1 key. This will permanently activate or deactivate them until you decide to toggle them again so you may view them as you need them.

High Scores

At the end of each game your scores and statistics are tallied and compared against the previous best games. If you have performed better than the previous top 10 players in the past you will get to enter your name into the High Scores. These can be viewed again from the Main Menu by selecting the High Scores option.

Each Methods of Play has some statistics it tracks and others it does not, so to get onto all of them you will have to master each Method of Play.

High Score areas are: Lowest Batting Average, Highest Score, Highest Runs, Most Hole-In-Ones and Least Distance to the Hole.

Options

There are a variety of settings you may choose from to customize BaseGolf to your liking.

Screen

Select either Full Screen or Windowed choices. Both have their advantages, and Windowed mode will be activated if you select an option which opens a browser (such as reading these instructions). To switch between Windowed and Full-Screen at any time you may press the ALT key and ENTER key at the same time (ALT+ENTER).

Keyboard Layout

This will normally not be required, so you are probably safe to ignore this feature. However, if you happen to be using a Dvorak style layout keyboard and your typing is showing up in the wrong format, then you may select the Dvorak Toggle option to correct it. Windows machines will normally not have a problem with this in the Normal settings, so make sure you really have a problem before selecting this option.

Sound

Here you will find options to turn the sound and music on or off as you please.

Online Update

In order to bring you the latest features and any potential fixes that have been required to BaseGolf, we have provided a mechanism to automatically check if new releases are available. Selecting Auto-Update Check will perform a simple and non-intrusive request to our Alitius server to check on a newer version of BaseGolf than you are running each time you start up. If you prefer to have this disabled you may manually check for updates from this menu as well.

We also have included a feature to report any errors you have while playing BaseGolf. Often you will not even notice the errors occurring, but we keep track of them anyway. If you have the Auto-Error Report feature enabled all errors that have been stored will be sent to our Alitius servers so that we may troubleshoot and fix them as soon as possible and get improved versions back to you.

We only collect the most basic information we need to perform troubleshooting, and do not send any personal information about you to our servers in this process. If you do not wish to enable auto-reporting you may also manually report the errors when you believe it is important. We will alert you to how many bugs you have pending to report on this page, their may be duplicates if these are not set to automatically be reported.
